Chakra Journey: Heart or Anahata Chakra
The heart chakra, Anahata, is the point of balance between the earthly and the divine within us. Represented by a six-pointed star, this chakra symbolizes harmony between opposites: heaven and earth, self and others, giving and receiving. Its energy governs our emotions, our capacity to love, and how we connect with the world. In Kundalini Yoga philosophy, Anahata acts as a bridge between the three lower chakras, which represent physical and emotional impulses, and the higher chakras, which connect to expanded consciousness and spirituality.
This energy center is linked to vital bodily functions such as the immune system, the thymus gland, and blood circulation. However, its impact goes far beyond the physical: balance in Anahata allows us to experience unconditional love, establish healthy boundaries, and develop a deeper awareness of our relationships. At this level of consciousness, we shift from an ego-centered approach to a perspective of genuine connection with others.
When the heart chakra is in harmony, we flow with empathy, compassion, and self-love. We become capable of listening to our intuition and allowing ourselves to live from the heart without fear or restriction.

Anahata’s functioning can be affected by various emotional experiences and thought patterns. Depending on its state, different challenges may arise:
Blocked or weak chakra: Leads to fear of rejection, low self-esteem, difficulty expressing love, and struggles to form healthy bonds.
Balanced chakra: Allows us to love unconditionally, feel secure in our relationships, and experience spirituality through love.
In Kundalini Yoga, kriyas, meditations, and pranayamas are used to unblock and expand the heart chakra’s energy. Here’s a special practice to activate and balance Anahata:
Heart Lotus Meditation:
Posture: Sit in a comfortable cross-legged position with a straight spine and closed eyes.
Mudra: Place your hands at the center of your chest, palms together, with your thumbs gently pressing against the sternum.
Breath: Inhale deeply and slowly through the nose, expanding the chest, and exhale completely.
Mantra: Softly chant "Sat Kartar" (Sat means truth, Kartar means doer). As you recite it, visualize an emerald green light in your chest, expanding with each breath.
Duration: Continue for 11 minutes, allowing the mantra’s vibration to open your heart space.
The Language of the Heart: Communication from Anahata
One of the most beautiful aspects of the heart chakra is how it transforms our way of communicating. Speaking from Anahata means connecting with others from a place of empathy and kindness, expressing ourselves with love and awareness. It’s not just about speaking our truth but doing so in a way that embraces both our emotions and those of others. While the fifth chakra, Vishuddha, encourages us to communicate clearly and directly, Anahata reminds us that true communication is also an act of compassion.
Balancing the heart chakra is essential for a fulfilling and connected life. Through Kundalini Yoga techniques such as the Heart Lotus Meditation, we can unlock and strengthen Anahata, allowing love to flow freely in our lives. By strengthening Anahata, we learn to love without fear, establish healthy relationships, and live in harmony with ourselves and the world.
Listen to your heart and allow yourself to live from love.
